The walk
We got up around 7:30 AM and headed to the restaurant for breakfast. After that, we went for a walk in the park. During our walk, we paused at one of the more upmarket hotels, where we were pleasantly surprised to discover a swimming pool.
After lunch, we decided to return and spend the afternoon by the pool. We played games, relaxed in the sun, and soaked up the atmosphere. The hours slipped by quickly, and by the end, many of us had caught the sun more than we’d planned. Feeling both refreshed and slightly sunburnt, we set off for Rubirizi, ready to begin the second bootcamp.
The drive to our next hotel took about an hour and a half to two hours. Once we’d settled into our rooms and sorted out our luggage, we were collected for dinner with the ten Ugandan students who had travelled with us from Mbarara.
Upon returning to the hotel, a few students expressed concerns about their safety. To address this, the teachers arranged for seven of the girls to stay at their hotel, while Thijs and Pieter remained at ours to ensure everyone felt comfortable and secure.
