Games, Growth… and Gunshots
I got up around 7 AM, and we had a good breakfast. After that, we took the bus to a business that helps girls learn different skills so they can start their own businesses. Some of these skills include music, hairdressing, baking, and sewing.
After visiting the first business, we went with four other HOWEST students who are doing their internship there to a juvenile prison to play with the kids. They visit twice a week because the children are only allowed to play outside when they have visitors.
After playing a group game, the kids were free to do what they wanted. Some played board games, some danced, and others played football. After about two hours, we had to leave and the children went for lunch.
After that, we visited another business and then returned to our hotel to eat something small, because by then it was already around 3 PM. Afterwards, we went swimming for a while, and then three others and I went for a run.
Once we had showered, we went into the city. We first stopped at a restaurant to order our food, and then walked around the city to buy some souvenirs and chips. Afterwards, we returned to the restaurant to eat. While we were eating, we suddenly heard several gunshots nearby. This was because of a hostage situation less than 100 meters away from us. For our safety, we had to go inside. We quickly finished our food because the driver wanted to leave before the army closed the streets, which would have left us stuck there.
